CLASS: MEDIUM DINOSAUR

SPECIES: CHASMOSAURUS

DIET: HERBIVORE

both male and female of this species are the same in coloration.

Chasmosaurus was a medium sized species of ceratopsian, in the same group that includes the more famous Triceratops. Like its larger relative it possesses three horns on its face. Although its brow horns are shorter, while its nose horn is more pronounced. Another interesting aspect of this species is the frill, which is large and rectangular in shape. From front view the frill would look very intimidating to a predator, making the animal seem larger than it actually is. Unlike the islands other ceratopsians of this size, the chasmosaurus is unique, as they sometimes produce a high pitched call. This call is unique to this species and through observing it over periods of time we’ve found that they use this sound as a check up system in their herds, where certain members sound the call as to reassure nearby herd members. Although this sound can be made more frequently. When used this way it acts as a danger call. These sounds make the chasmosaurus a very interesting dinosaur indeed.
